General characteristics
What is Ferrari Virtual Academy?
FVA is a simulator of the Ferrari F10 single-seater created by the Scuderia Ferrari: it is similar to a videogame, but technically more sophisticated: it enables users to drive an F10 comparing the own performance with the performance by the Scuderia Ferrari drivers using the same simulator. The software includes the Fiorano circuit (with the possibility to add further circuits) planned with CAD technology and Laserscan, guaranteeing an aesthetically, three-dimensional accurate result of the virtual tracks.
What platform do I have to use?
Ferrari Virtual Academy can only be used with PC Windows: it is NOT compatible with Mac, consoles or other operative systems (Linux, Ubuntu, etc.).
How does it work?
1. Visit this website to purchase the license
2. Download and install the software
3. Configure the video/controller set ups
4. Launch the programme, log in and start a free practice session or a hot lap
Purchase
Where can I buy the Ferrari Virtual Academy?
You can buy Ferrari Virtual Academy directly on the Internet, by using the most common online payment systems. Visit this site.
How much do I have to pay for Ferrari Virtual Academy?
You can purchase the basic software for 14,90 Euro.
Do I need to subscribe to Ferrari Virtual Academy?
No: you need to purchase the basic package to which you add more content.
What is this further content?
Every package includes a circuit, reproduced with Laserscan technology and a development step of the Ferrari F10, adding aerodynamic, electronic and mechanical functions, as well as software updates to improve the functionality.
Access and login
Why can't I connect?
There are several causes why this could happen. First of all check if you have an active and working Internet connection. Check that your username and the license code have been filled in correctly. If you still don't have a license code you can purchase it by visiting this site.
Why am I automatically disconnected?
This happens when the Internet connection is interrupted or you try to connect simultaneously to Ferrari Virtual Academy from more than one device. The configuration panel automatically saves your username and password, to speed up the log in procedure. The Log in screen, when you launch the game, doesn't save the access data and can be used when you connect from another PC, e.g. in a library, at an Internet point of at University.
Hardware
What kind of hardware is required for the simulator?
The software runs on all PC Windows with 3D video card. Hardware requirements you can find at this link.
Does Ferrari Virtual Academy also work on my notebook?
The software runs on all notebooks with 3D video card and the specific hardware requirements.
What controls can I use to race the Ferrari F10?
The software supports most of the available controllers, including steering wheel/pedals, joypad, joystick, keyboard and mouse. Please consult the complete list of compatible controller here.
Does Ferrari Virtual Academy support specific hardware?
Ferrari Virtual Academy is compatible with the most common technological solutions dedicated to sim.racing: the control configuration panel allows to use dedicated external devices and to manually configure steering axle, accelerator, brakes, gear-change and keys to manage the F10's controls. Find the complete list of compatible external devices here.
Simulation
What is the simulator's level of difficulty?
Ferrari Virtual Academy uses a advanced physical engine to accurately reproduce the Ferrari F10's dynamic behaviour: to facilitate the car's control less experienced drivers can use the automatic gear-change and assisted brake and acceleration systems, guaranteeing higher stability. These systems are available in training mode.
I read that the circuits have been created with Laserscan technology: what is that?
Laserscan technology is a sophisticated system, using a scanner in three dimensions. Thus a three-dimensional impression of the surroundings can be achieved with an approximation of a few millimetres. Based on the collected data the circuit is built and inserted and managed by the simulator.
What are the driving visuals of the Ferrari F10?
There are 6 different driving visuals to satisfy every taste with further eight on-board cameras to be used in replay.
Why can't I shift up quickly?
There is a shift control, preventing the users to change low gears to fast so that the engine does not over-rev.
Why is the engine not idling?
The car as to be at a complete standstill.
How do I use the gear-change with the keyboard?
To change gears use the space bar: the gear shifts up while accelerating, while when off the acellerator or braking by pressing the space bar you shift down.
Why isn't the driving assistance available in hot lap mode?
All drivers have to drive under the same conditions, racing the F10 like proper racing drivers, managing brakes, accelerator and gear-change.
During driving some information is shown on the screen: what is it an can I deactivate this function?
On the left you can see how many laps you have driven so far, the intervals and the actual lap. On the right you can see the revs, the actual gear and the pressure on the accelerator and the brakes. This information is extremely useful when you are using an external visual. To activate/deactivate this information, please press F9
Clicking on the times' icon nothing happens: why?
To show the data regarding the lap you need to drive a complete lap with a valid lap time registered.
How do I read the telemetry and what is the data?
The telemetry shows the data of your own fastest lap in the session, compared to the data of the reference lap driven by the Scuderia Ferrari drivers, shown in red.
the main information is the speed, the acceleration and brakes, indicated also in percentage, and the used gear. Comparing the 2 graphs you can verify your driving style and performance comparing it to Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella.
Resolution problems
How can I get help in case of a problem?
Please read the manual in this section. If you can't solve the problem please consult the page for technical support or visit the dedicated forum .
Why does the car automatically drive back to the box?
The car drives back to the box when you have been driving in the wrong direction for a certain time. To get to know the track activate the racing line in the driving options: the arrows indicate the direction.
